| The Ethnology and Archeology Museum of Lourinha (Portugal) calls for illustrations of dinosaurs and other extinct animals. The minimum admissible size is 148 x 210 mm (5.83 x 8.27 inches). There is no maximum size. Preference will be given to Illustrations of Portuguese species and/or Animals depicted as life-like appearance, set in their natural habitat. Exhibition and announcement of contest winners will be held in the museum. |

| The town of Maalot-Tarshiha (in the Galilee, Israel) is unique for its' harmonious coexistence of Arabs and Jews, sharing 7 quarters and one municipality. For the past eighteen years the Municipality of Maalot-Tarshiha has organized an annual International Sculpture Symposium known as “Stone in the Galilee.” The event hosts sculptors from Israel and all over the world, who stay at Maalot-Tarshiha for 20 days and sculpt open-air exhibits and sculptures out of local Galilee stone (dimensions up to size 2m3, with height not less than 1.2 meters). The upcoming “Stone in the Galilee” Symposium is planned for March 26th through april 14th 2009 and sculptors are invited to submit their proposals / sketches for sculptures to be executed at the Symposium. Proposals must relate to the theme : Urban Environmental Sculpting. | The Villa Strauli, a residency program in Winterthur (Switzerland), aims to promote stimulating encounters between its artists in residence, the local cultural scene, and an interested general public. The January 31st deadline refers to the Long-term studios residencies, beginning and ending: 15.01. - 29.06.10 or 02.07. - 15.12.10. Inquiries regrading the short term residencies may be made at any time, and should a studio be temporarily unoccupied, it can be awarded at the director’s discretion. Please note: An artist invited to participate in a studio residency is to try to obtain a grant in his/her native country to cover living and travel expenses. | Each year approximately 25 artists are selected for a residency at the Rijksakademie (in Amsterdam, Netherlands). Admission is initially for a work period of one year (January to December). Whether a second year is considered worthwhile, will be decided by mutual agreement. Resident artists have usually successfully completed their studies and have worked independently as artists for a number of years prior to their application. Please note: Artists who successfully pass the first round of screening are invited for an interview in June at the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam. |

| A Department of Public Works in Italy published a competition for artists regarding the selection, execution and acquisition of two works of art destined for the MAXXI, the National Museum of the Arts of the XXI Century, located in Rome. The competition is open to all those enjoying civil and political rights in their home state. Work No. 1 will be located in the atrium of the building’s principal entrance, a very large and prevalently vertical space. The work is to be installed in the upper part of the atrium, utilising where necessary the metal profiles provided on the lower edges of the roof beams, and must be suspended at least three metres above the floor of the ground floor. Work No. 2 is to be located in the external area, which comprises both open zones and others, covered by cantilevered portions of the building and has a maximum usable height of 5.5 metres. After the first stage selection, six artists/groups for each work shall be invited to present a model of the work of art. The expenses of those artists selected for the second phase of the competition who do not win the final prize shall be reimbursed to the gross sum of 5,000 Euros. Each competitor may participate individually or as part of a group with a single proposal for each of the two works. |

| The purpose of the Emerging Artist Program is to recognize and showcase the artwork of up and coming artists who wish to establish themselves in a professional visual arts career. Once selected, these artists are invited to participate in the Festival (Tampa, Florida, March 2009) at no cost. They will also be provided with the use of an individual display tent and receive an expense allowance. Artists must be present Applicants to the Emerging Artist Program should not have an established record as a professional artist showing their work in museums, art centers, major galleries or juried outdoor art exhibitions. In addition, applicants must not have more than 25% of their total annual income derived from the sale of their artwork and must not be licensed professionally as a visual artist. Each artist must submit three slides or digital images. The artwork shown on three slides/digital images must have been produced since 2006. Awards and checks will be presented to the winning artists in person at the awards ceremony on March 7 afternoon. | Swing Space is a space grant program that connects artists and arts organizations with vacant commercial space downtown (New York City).
